Guide to Learning Aquatic

Been accepted into Cinnte? You have? Great! Part of being an active (and effective) member of this pack is mastering the pack's underwater language called Aquatic. Aquatic consists of the flashing, dimming, and brightening of the bioluminescent organs on various parts of the canine's body and gestures with the limbs or tail for means of underwater communication. Here is a guide to help you master the language of Aquatic.


::Communication Gestures::

Making a circle with a front paw- "Not right now, we'll settle this matter later."
Rolling shoulders in a shrug- "I don't know/have no idea."
Nodding head twice- "I agree.", "Yes."
Shaking head twice- "I don't agree.", "No."
Lifting head and pointing nose at water's surface- "Meet me at the surface."
Swimming in constant circles around pack member and smiling- "I'm so happy to see you!"
Nudging pack member gently with nose- "Hey, are you alright?"
Nuzzling pack member's face- "I missed you."
Pressing body against pack member- "It's okay.", "Everything will be alright.", "Calm down.", "I'm here for you."


::Communication Patterns::

Two brief flashes of organs on the face and throat with pointing at object or pack member- "I will protect."
A single brief flash of organs on the face- "Hello."
All organs brightly illuminated for a few seconds- "Silence!" (used in meetings by high-raking pack members only), "Go away!", "Stop it!"
Organs on muzzle flashed once- Questions (who, what, when, where, why, how?)
Two brief flashes of organs on all four legs and tail- "Follow me.", "Let's go."
Pointing at pack member and repeatedly flashing organs on all four legs and tail- "Come here."
Dimming brightness of all organs and looking away- "I'm sorry.", "I'm ashamed."
Increasing brightness of all organs and staring intently at pack member- "What?!"
Slowly flashing organs on muzzle and face while showing teeth- "What did you just say to me?!"
Single flash of organs on all four legs- "I'm leaving now.", "Bye."
Single flash of organs on all four legs followed by a a single flash of organs on the tail- "I'm leaving. See/talk to you later!"
Two brief flashes of organs under eyes and pointing at object- "Look!"
Two brief flashes of organs under eyes and pointing at self and smiling playfully- "Look at me!" (friendly)
Two brief flashes of organs behind ears and under eyes and pointing at self and showing teeth- "Look at me." (hostile)
Increasing brightness of organs on muzzle and tail and showing teeth- "I will attack if you come closer."
Three brief flashes of organs on muzzle, backs of ears, and under eyes- "I don't care."
Illuminating organs on front legs and muzzle while smiling playfully- "Let's play!"
Single flash of organs on all four legs and tail- "Leave me alone."
Illuminating organs under eyes and backs of ears- "You have my attention."
Single flash of organs behind ears followed by single flash of organs on muzzle- "I didn't get that.", "Please repeat that."
Illuminating organs on throat and under eyes- "I love you."
Two brief flashes of organs on front legs followed by a single flash of organs on tail- "I should smack you for that."
Progressive, bright, rapid illumination of all organs from tip of muzzle to tip of tail and showing teeth- Threat display that is quickly followed by an attack
Three brief flashes of organs on tail followed by two brief flashes of organs on throat- "Danger!"


::Showing Emotions::

Slow flashing of any organs and showing teeth- Seething anger
Rapid, constant flashing of any organs along with rapid or jerky movement- Trying to get attention, urgency, fear
Illuminating organs on face and under eyes while rolling eyes- Sarcasm, dismissive
Brightly illuminating organs on backs of ears, tail, muzzle, and under eyes- Defiance, challenging
Dimming all organs- Regret, sorrow, guilt, shame
Repeatedly flashing organs on throat and ears- Submission
