The acceptance ritual is to be performed by a canine or a group of canines immediately after the bring a large prey animal (i.e. Deer, Elk, Sheep, etc.) down to the ground. It is done as a sign of understanding and respect that is silently passed between the prey and the predator- The prey understands that it is dying so that another may live, and the predator understands this as well and is to respect the prey animal for giving up its life. This does not need to be performed when a small prey animal is captured (i.e. Fish, Rodent of any kind, Reptile of any kind, or a songbird of any kind).
Procedure:
Canine- Lies on ground on their stomach and looks the dying prey animal into the eyes. This can say one of the following:
- Thank you for giving up your life so that we may live.
- Thank you, friend. Your meat will sustain us.
- You will be promised a quick and painless death, dear child of Fiach. Thank you for giving up your life for us. You will be honored.
Dying Prey Animal- Will look the canine back into their eyes and give a weak nod of their head. This can say one of the following:
- I am old. I have sired/mothered many offspring, been a valuable member to my herd, and have seen all that the world has had to offer me. May my meat sustain you.
- I am sick. I have been suffering for a long time both in body and in spirit. It made me sad when I saw my loved ones worry and fret for me, and I didn't want to witness such a thing for any longer. It pleases me to know that my death will bring life to others. Thank you.
- I have been in physical pain for as long as I can remember. May my meat sustain you, friend.
Once the exchange has been completed, the canine then delivers the death blow to the neck; quickly killing the prey animal. Only after the prey animal has breathed its last may the canine or group of canines eat or take it back to their pack's camp.
