The idea for Mair came to Moya in a dream on Winter night. But, that's a story for a rainy day.
This is the lore behind the odd-looking structures that Moya calls 'Dwelling-Places' or 'Crós'.
Legend has it that the stone building-like structures that Mair's members reside in today came to be in existence thanks to an Animus Canine by the name of Seas. Seas was a male Siberian Husky who once resided on the island that Mair now calls home long before the humans discovered the continent of Baile in a little tribe that called themselves The Beag.
As fate would later have it, Seas fell in love with a beautiful Timber Wolf named Réalta who was the daughter of the tribe's Chieftain, Cumas. However, Cumas had high standards for the potential suitors of his only daughter and child. Now, Seas knew that he, a lowly Forager, was not what Cumas wanted for Réalta.
So, using the Animus Magic that was gifted to him at birth by the goddess Bandia, he produced massive chunks of granite from the earth beneath their island home and carved them out to form livable dwellings; some with multiple living spaces. But, that did not impress Cumas. Ever determined, Seas rose up a final chunk of granite; this time, etching detailed carvings of vines, leaves, and flowers into the new building's exterior. The proud Husky presented it to his Chieftain as the new living space for him and his daughter. Réalta was greatly impressed by this and begged her father over and over to accept the young male Husky's proposal.
Though he himself was not, the mighty wolf at last bent to the pleas of his lovely daughter and allowed her to join with the delighted dog.
But, after she had given him two beautiful daughters (Togha and Rinn), a hansom son (Cruach), and two years of pure bliss, the toll of using his magic to produce those elaborate stone structures to win his mate's father's approval had taken its toll on his mind. He slowly spiraled down into madness; killing his children one by one in front of his horrified mate and father-in-law before killing her too and running off laughing like a maniac.
Enraged and grief-stricken, a now elderly Cumas ordered two of his his best trackers along with two of his best warriors to seek out the deranged Husky and kill him as soon as they found him. Two days later, the party came back, dragging Seas' mangle corpse with them. Before he had been killed, Seas had managed to kill one of the trackers and fatally injure one of the warriors.
Still, Cumas ended up dying of a broken heart and the tribe tore itself into oblivion through tribe members fighting among themselves over who would be the next ruler; as Cumas had no living children or other family that could take his place.
Centuries later, Moya came upon the island by sheer luck and discovered the stone structures along with the extensive records (written in Latin on rabbit hides and stored in fallen, hollow tree trunks) that the former inhabitants had kept. It was only that by reading these badly damaged and decaying documents that she was able to learn of the events that unfolded on her pack's land.
